Go and Tell

Have you ever felt stuck wondering if you’re supposed to share your faith? Or afraid to talk about Jesus because you don’t know what to say or how people will react? You’re not alone. Many believers wrestle with these questions, but Jesus gives us clear direction—and encouragement—in Matthew 28:18–20:  “Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’”

Following Jesus means both going where He sends us and telling others the good news boldly and lovingly. Let’s explore what that looks like for us today.

1. GO: Obedience Requires Action
When Jesus says, “Go,” He’s not just commanding physical travel to faraway places. Going is a mindset of obedience—a willingness to step beyond your comfort zone and be present where God has placed you.

Maybe it’s your workplace, your neighborhood, your school, or even your family circle. Going means engaging with the people God puts in your daily life, not waiting for them to come to church or reach out first.

This mission is not optional for followers of Jesus; it’s part of our identity. If we don’t go:
  • The good news stays hidden.
  • People miss out on life-transforming hope.
  • Our faith risks becoming private and powerless.

Going means intentionally showing up—being the hands and feet of Jesus right where you are.

2. TELL: Courage to Share
The “tell” part is about sharing the gospel—the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus—and what He means personally to you.

Sharing your faith isn’t about winning arguments or forcing beliefs. Instead, it’s about telling your story and pointing others to Jesus with humility and grace. We are His witnesses!

Because we are His witnesses, we can speak up with:
  • Courage to speak up, even when it’s uncomfortable.
  • Clarity to share the core message of Jesus.
  • Compassion to meet people where they are.
  • Confidence that God works through your witness.

If we don’t tell:
  • We keep others in darkness and lostness.
  • We miss out on seeing God work through our witness.
  • We rob others of hope and salvation.

Jesus calls us to both go and tell—the mission requires it.

Peter reminds us in 1 Peter 3:15–16: “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect…”

Because Jesus is our Lord…
  • I will be prepared to tell about Him as I go about my everyday life.
  • I will share the truth with gentleness and respect.
  • I will live consistently so my life backs up my words.

3. Jesus Goes With Us
The best news? We don’t go or tell alone. Jesus promises:
“I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)
His authority backs our mission—it’s not a suggestion but a command given with power behind it. We are empowered by the Holy Spirit to be witnesses (Acts 1:8):
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

What Does This Look Like?

When You Need to Go:
  • Pray and ask God where He wants you to step outside your comfort zone.
  • Serve in your community, workplace, or school.
  • Be intentionally present where people need Jesus.

When You Need to Tell:
  • Share your personal story of faith.
  • Ask God for opportunities to talk about Jesus naturally.
  • Practice listening well and speaking with grace and truth.

This Week’s Challenge:
  • Identify one place where God is calling you to go.
  • Identify one person you can tell about Jesus.
  • Pray for courage, wisdom, and compassion as you step out.

The mission Jesus gave us isn’t just for pastors or missionaries. It’s for every follower of Christ—right where you are. When you go and tell, you partner with Jesus to bring hope, healing, and new life to a world that desperately needs it. And the best part? Jesus goes with you every step of the way.
