Series Focus: Spend time with God to be more like Jesus
Use this guide to lead your family. In each guide, you will find a parenting affirmation to help you focus on God's call on you as a parent/guardian. Then, you will find a Scripture passage from the New International Reader's Version of the Bible. When you are done reading, there are discussion questions to help your family talk about what you read. Feel free to add to or skip questions as time allows. At some point during the week, it would be extra special to plan to do the optional Family Activity.
Parenting Affirmation: God is using parenthood to make me more like Jesus. Read Isaiah 48:10-11
Read: 35 It was very early in the morning and still dark. Jesus got up and left the house. He went to a place where he could be alone. There he prayed. 36 Simon and his friends went to look for Jesus. 37 When they found him, they called out, “Everyone is looking for you!” Mark 1:35-37
Discussion Questions:
Why did Jesus retreat to a lonely place and what did He do?
What is one of your favorite places to “retreat”? Why?
What do you like to do when you “retreat”?
Why is it important for us to retreat from time to time?
When can you and/or your family plan a day or part of a day to retreat?
While you are in this place, what could you do to focus on God and all that He has done and is doing for you?
What part of God’s character could you focus on while withdrawing this month?
Family Activity: Make a plan for how you will retreat together during the month. What will you do and how much time will you allow to focus on God during this retreat?
