Rhythm of Bible Study

Series Focus:  Spend time with God to be more like Jesus
Use this guide to lead your family.  In each guide, you will find a parenting affirmation to help you focus on God's call on you as a parent/guardian.  Then, you will find a Scripture passage from the New International Reader's Version of the Bible.  When you are done reading, there are discussion questions to help your family talk about what you read.  Feel free to add to or skip  questions as time allows.  At some point during the week, it would be extra special to plan to do the optional Family Activity.

Parenting Affirmation:  God is using parenthood to make me more like Jesus.  Read Isaiah 48:10-11

Read:  24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.  MATTHEW 7:24-29

Discussion Questions:
Offensive truth encourages people to not just read and hear the Bible but to find ways to apply it to every part of life.  You can't apply anything if you haven't heard or read it, so that is a great place to start.  Let's talk as a family how we can move beyond reading and hearing the Bible to live it.

What is one thing that keeps you from studying the Bible more?
What makes you excited about studying the Bible more?
Let's look at the scripture in our Family Time today.  Someone read it for me starting in verse Matthew 7:24-29.
What does Jesus say will happen if we hear and put them into practice in our lives?
What happens if we hear His Words but don't live them out?
How does hearing, reading, and living what the Bible teaches us to prepare us for the good and bad days of life?
How can we pray for each other to be able to apply God's Word to our lives more?

Family Activity:  Listen to the sermon from this week again.  Jesus used God's Word as the priority for what He taught others.  Jesus made God's Word a habit to read and hear regularly.  Jesus used God's Word to battle temptation and sin.  What ways can each of us use God's Word to fight temptation, hopelessness, and apathy?  Is there a particular verse you need to memorize and meditate on to give you strength to stand through these things?
