I Will Build My Church

PARENT AFFIRMATIONS
My children are a gift from God.  Psalms 127:3-5, The way I raise my kids will impact the world. Deuteronomy 6, Matthew 28:19-20

READ MATTHEW 16:13-20
13 Jesus went to the area of Caesarea Philippi. There he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” 14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist. Others say Elijah. Still others say Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.”

15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah. You are the Son of the living God.”

17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon, son of Jonah! No mere human showed this to you. My Father in heaven showed it to you. 18 Here is what I tell you. You are Peter. On this rock I will build my church. The gates of hell will not be strong enough to destroy it. 19 I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. What you lock on earth will be locked in heaven. What you unlock on earth will be unlocked in heaven.” 20 Then Jesus ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.  Matthew 16:13-20

DISCUSS IT
  • Jesus builds His church.  What do you think about that statement?  Does that change how you see your church?
  • How does Jesus build His church?  (He brings people together in relationships and calls them to use their gifts to serve others.)
  • What is your church?  If it is Parkway Church, how are you committed to being part of the family?
  • How often do you worship with Parkway?  Who are you connected to deeply at Parkway? Where are you serving consistently?  (If these questions were hard to answer, please reach out to your campus leaders, they would be happy to help you find a way to connect to one or all of these)
  • What difference does connecting deeply in the church make for our family?

FAMILY ACTIVITY
What are you going to commit to this school year at Parkway?  (Small group for everyone (kids and adults)? Serving as a family (kids & adults)?  Attending worship more regularly (kids & adults)?  Based on your answer to this question,  what is one step you can take to help your family make this a goal?  Pray together as a family.  To keep growing every family needs a spiritual family.  Our Parkway family would love to welcome you into more of what we do as a family.
