Questioning Faith

PARENTING AFFIRMATION
God’s grace is greater than my parenting mistakes.  Proverbs 19:21

READ IT
24 Thomas was one of the 12 disciples. He was also called Didymus. He was not with the other disciples when Jesus came. 25 So they told him, “We have seen the Lord!”  But he said to them, “First I must see the nail marks in his hands. I must put my finger where the nails were. I must put my hand into his side. Only then will I believe.” 26 A week later, Jesus’ disciples were in the house again. Thomas was with them. Even though the doors were locked, Jesus came in and stood among them. He said, “May peace be with you!” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here. See my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” 28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen me but still have believed.”  John 20:24-29

DISCUSS IT
In Pastor Mike’s sermon today we learned that faith grows over time.  Our Bible story today from John 20 shows us how Thomas’s faith was growing as he witnessed what the other disciples already saw.
  • If you were like Thomas and didn’t see Jesus at His resurrection, what would you want to see to make sure it was Him?
  • When you have questions about your faith, who should you talk to?  (parents, small group leaders, church staff)
  • We are part of the blessed who have not seen Jesus but can still believe.  Let’s spend a few minutes talking to each other about what we know about Jesus.
  • How does remembering what we know about Jesus help us answer our questions about faith?  (We build our lives on what we know about Jesus and He answers our questions as we follow Him and learn more about Him.)
  • Trusting God means looking beyond what we can see to what God sees.  How can you begin to see what God sees?  How can we encourage each other to see more of these things?

FAMILY ACTIVITY
I Believe Art:  gather several art supplies.  You can use a canvas or large piece of paper.  Create a mural together of things that everyone in your family believes about Jesus.  Find a way to display this art so that when there are times you are doubting, you can look to remember what God has taught you.
