The Stressed Out Sister

PARENTING AFFIRMATIONS
I love being a parent.  Psalms 128,  I make my home a haven for my kids.  Romans 12:18, Galatians 5:22-23

READ IT
38 Jesus and his disciples went on their way. Jesus came to a village where a woman named Martha lived. She welcomed him into her home. 39 She had a sister named Mary. Mary sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was busy with all the things that had to be done. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, my sister has left me to do the work by myself. Don’t you care? Tell her to help me!” 41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered. “You are worried and upset about many things. 42 But few things are needed. Really, only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better. And it will not be taken away from her.”  Luke 10:38-42

DISCUSS IT
Mary and Martha are the perfect sister pair.  One worries about all the details and the other sits at Jesus feet.
  • Who do you identify with the most?  Why?
  • When you get stressed by life or frustrated with someone, what should you do?
  • Do you ever feel like we are too busy or over stressed as a family?
  • How can we use every opportunity  to help our family focus more on Jesus?
  • How can we take time to focus more on Jesus?

FAMILY ACTIVITY
Did you listen to your kids in these discussion questions?  I know you heard their answers, but did you hear the heart of what they are talking about?  Our kids and those closest to us are our best gauge for how we are doing at focusing on Jesus.  Stop right now and pray.  Ask God to open your ears and heart to hear what you need to hear and for God to guide you and your family to find ways to put stress down and focus on Jesus.  Maybe that means you guys pray together before you get out of the car.  Maybe that means you listen to worship music on your way to each activity.  Maybe you could even listen to the Bible app read scripture to you as you drive from school to home.  How are you guys going to take control of your schedule and add Jesus to it?
