Because our beliefs impact our lives and how we live is determined by what we believe, we are teaching through the core doctrines of our church. We are digging deep into our faith to live it fully.
In Matthew 16, Jesus asked His disciples the most important question ever asked: Who do you say I am? Everybody has an opinion on who Jesus is. Some are right. Many are not. Jesus pressed His disciples to say who He was to them to see if they were wrong like the crowds or not.
Peter spoke up and said, you are the Christ, the Son of the Living God. Peter didn't often get it right but this time he did. Peter was 100% right and Jesus said He would be blessed because of His belief.
Why would He be blessed? Because what we believe about Jesus is the most important thing that we believe and what we believe about Jesus determines how we live.
Some say Jesus was a good man with a good message. They miss what the Gospel of John teaches. Jesus was more than a good teacher. He was God in human flesh.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. JOHN 1:14
Others see Jesus as a good addition to their life. Perhaps He is their co-pilot or the One they cry out to when they are in trouble. This is a Jesus take-the-wheel view. But Jesus is no man's copilot. He is the redeemer, Savior who gave His life for us and was raised again from the dead.
19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. COLOSSIANS 1:19-20
The fullness of God dwelt in Jesus so that we could know the fullness of God so Jesus isn't an addition to our life. He is our life!
Some culturally celebrate that Jesus was born but they don't believe He is their Savior and they don't submit their lives to Him. Think about it: why would I trust a baby with my life? Why would I submit to the sweet baby Jesus? We believe and follow because Jesus came for us and will one day come again for us. The baby who lay in a manger will one day, come to rule and reign.
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. PHILIPPIANS 2:10-11
When He returns, no one will miss it and everyone will confess that He is Lord. That's why we live to be ready for His return. We don't know when He will return but we know that while we wait, we seek to love Him, honor Him, serve Him, and share Him with others.
Make it your desire to know Him more every day and be ready for His return.
