God's love is at the heart of Christmas. The Bible tells us that: “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” (1 John 4:9-10)
Every Christmas, we celebrate and know that God chose to love us. He didn’t wait for us to love Him, He came for us so that we could love Him and the birth of Jesus is proof. Jesus’ display of God’s love didn’t end in the manger. Jesus shows us God's love in a tangible way. He healed the sick, fed the hungry, and raised the dead. Christmas is a time to reflect on the amazing love that God has for us and to remember how this love impacts our lives.
1. God's love is shown in the gift of His Son.
Jesus is the greatest gift that God could have ever given us. He is the perfect expression of God's love. When we put our faith in Jesus, our Savior, we receive God's forgiveness and the gift of eternal life. Because of Christmas, we have security in life. Jesus demonstrated God’s love for us and gave His life for us so that we can know we are His now and forever.
2. God's love is shown in the incarnation.
When Jesus was born, God became one of us. He experienced life as a human being and faced the same challenges that we face. This shows us that God loves us deeply and that He is always with us. We have a role model worth following in Jesus. He lived and loved perfectly and teaches us to do the same as we pursue Him. Because of Christmas, change is always possible when you keep your eyes on and commit to living like Jesus.
3. God's love is shown in the cross.
Jesus was born for a purpose. He came for us to do what none of us could do on our own. He came to be our perfect sacrifice. The baby that the wise men visited would 33 years later be beaten, mocked, and crucified. Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. This was the ultimate act of love. Because of Christmas, we can know the way to salvation, Jesus, and trust in Him alone.
4. God's love is shown in the resurrection.
Jesus rose from the dead three days after He was crucified. This victory over death shows us that God's love is stronger than anything else. Because of Christmas, we know that the eternal one Jesus loves us and that nothing and no one can separate us from the love of God. Need proof of the victory you have in God’s love? Read Romans 8 and see the lasting power of God’s love. Because of Christmas, we have God’s hope and love that lasts a lifetime and beyond.
