EASTER READING PLANS

Every day of Easter week teaches us something about Jesus and His mission to save the world. Read the passages that tell the Easter story and remember all that He has done.
PALM SUNDAY: JESUS IS DECLARED KING
Jesus entered Jerusalem riding on a donkey, fulfilling the prophecy from Zechariah 9:9. People spread palm branches and shouted, "Hosanna!" This event marks the beginning of Passion Week.  Read Matthew 21:1-11
MONDAY: JESUS PURIFIES WORSHIP
Jesus entered the temple, healed the blind and the lame, and drove out the money changers and those selling animals, calling the temple a house of prayer, but they had turned it into a den of robbers.  Read Matthew 21:12-22.
TUESDAY: JESUS TEACHES & CHALLENGES
Jesus continued with some of his toughest teaching in the temple, telling parables and answering questions. He confronted the religious leaders, including the Pharisees and Sadducees, about their hypocrisy and false teachings.  He also prophesied the destruction of the temple and spoke of the signs of the end times.  Read Matthew  21:23-24:51.
WEDNESDAY: JESUS RESTS AND HIS BETRAYAL IS SET IN MOTION
While Jesus rested, Judas and the Jewish leaders developed a plan to betray for 30 pieces of silver.  Read Matthew 26:1-16.
THURSDAY: JESUS SERVES, PRAYS, AND IS ARRESTED.
Jesus washed His disciples' feet so they would know the life they were to live serving others. Jesus celebrated the Passover meal (the Last Supper) with His disciples, where He instituted the Lord’s Supper pointing toward His death and the life He would give them.  Afterward, He went to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray, expressing His sorrow and submitting to the Father’s will.  During this time, Judas betrayed Him, and He was arrested.  Read Matthew 26:17-46.
FRIDAY: JESUS IS CRUCIFIED, SUFFERS AND DIES
Jesus was tried by the Sanhedrin and the Roman authorities.  He was sentenced to be crucified, and after being mocked and beaten, He carried His cross to Golgotha, where He was crucified between two thieves.  Jesus died at around 3 PM, and His body was taken down and placed in a tomb before sundown.  Read Matthew 26:57–27:66.
SATURDAY: JESUS' BODY LAY IN THE TOMB
Jesus' body lay in the tomb. The religious leaders sealed the tomb and set guards to prevent anyone from stealing His body.  Read Matthew 27:62-66.
EASTER SUNDAY: THE TOMB IS EMPTY AND JESUS IS ALIVE
On the third day at dawn, women went to the tomb and found the stone rolled away.  An angel announced, “He is not here; He has risen!”  The one, Jesus, who died is alive!  This event is the foundation of our faith, marking victory over sin and death. Read Matthew 28:1-15.
Draw near to God this Easter by reading His Word.  Enjoy the reading plans.

BOOK RECOMMENDATION

CAN WE TRUST THE GOSPELS?

The Gospels―Matthew, Mark, Luke, John―are four accounts of Jesus’s life and teachings while on earth. But should we accept them as historically accurate? What evidence is there that the recorded events actually happened?

Presenting a case for the historical reliability of the Gospels, New Testament scholar Peter Williams examines evidence from non-Christian sources, assesses how accurately the four biblical accounts reflect the cultural context of their day, compares different accounts of the same events, and looks at how these texts were handed down throughout the centuries. Everyone from the skeptic to the scholar will find powerful arguments in favor of trusting the Gospels as trustworthy accounts of Jesus’s earthly life.
