The Futility of Pleasure

Solomon's first pursuit of purpose came from pleasure. Can a pleasure-driven life provide purpose and meaning? Solomon explored every form of pleasure: wealth, wine, sex, and work. What did he discover? None offer lasting fulfillment. The lasting lesson from Solomon is that material things and experiences may bring temporary joy, but cannot provide ultimate meaning and purpose. Meaning and purpose come not from what we experience under the sun, but from what we do with the time we have in relationship with God.
